The Secret to a Vibrant Life
We would not have the amazing joy we experience at Easter if Mary would have said “no” to God’s call. She cultivated the ultimate joy of humanity by saying “yes.” In the same way, we have the ability to bring joy to our life and the lives of others each time we are willing to do what God asks of us. Our primary way to say yes is to purposely pursue virtue. Join with us in the month of May as we daily pray the Beatitudes of Virtue and Joy and reflect upon relevant scripture to help us grow in the virtue of joy! For before these days Theu′das arose, giving himself out to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him; but he was slain and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census and drew away some of the people after him; he also perished, and all who followed him were scattered. So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this undertaking is of men, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice, and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day in the temple and at home they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Acts 13:43-52
Paul and Barnabas continued on from Perga
and reached Antioch in Pisidia.
On the sabbath they entered the synagogue and took their seats.
Many Jews and worshipers who were converts to Judaism
followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them
and urged them to remain faithful to the grace of God.
On the following sabbath almost the whole city gathered
to hear the word of the Lord.
When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy
and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said.
Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said,
“It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first,
but since you reject it
and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life,
we now turn to the Gentiles.
For so the Lord has commanded us,
I have made you a light to the Gentiles,
that you may be an instrument of salvation
to the ends of the earth.”
The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this
and glorified the word of the Lord.
All who were destined for eternal life came to believe,
and the word of the Lord continued to spread
through the whole region.
The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers
and the leading men of the city,
stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas,
and expelled them from their territory.
So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them,
and went to Iconium.
The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.
49 The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. 50 But the Jewish leaders incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

Mary set out

the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
“Most blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.”
And Mary said:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.”
The Beatitudes of Virtue and Joy
Blessed are those that are Honest.
They have deep and lasting friendships.
Blessed are those that are Patient.
They live their life in serenity.
Blessed are those that are Kind.
They spread Joy to others.
Blessed are those that are Courageous.
Their Joy is unshakeable.
Blessed are those that struggle to live a life of sexual purity and Chastity.
Their effort pleases God.
Blessed are the Humble.
Their unselfishness is a great source of encouragement.
Blessed are the Temperate.
Material possessions cannot produce the Joy the Lord has given them.
Blessed are the Diligent.
Their consistency and faithfulness produce a Joyful and abundant life.
Blessed are the Prudent.
Their good decisions allow them to live a life free from chaos.
Blessed are the Grateful.
Their sense of Joy cannot be stolen by difficult circumstances.
Blessed are the Generous.
Their cooperation with God’s loving nature, creates a rippling effect of Joy.
Lord, always help me to be aware of the many joyful blessings you bestow when I pursue a life of virtue. Amen.
